Medical management in the context of migration. A resignification from the Venezuelan perspective

Abstract

The turbulence that spreads the world today is associated with the complexity, dynamism and uncertainty of the global environment. International migration responds mainly to the globalizing effect, it is estimated according to the authors consulted that “175 million professionals live outside their country of origin and that 65 million are economically active” In these migratory movements, there are elements such as: the demographic transition, the globalization of the media, cultural dependence, sociocultural strategies and family networks. Therefore, migration is a complex phenomenon, which is echoed in different social realities and even more so in the health sector. Therefore, the objective of this research is to redefine Venezuelan medical management in the context of the current migratory phenomenon. The method is framed within the interpretative, the 
sample was made up of: migrant Venezuelan patients (74) and doctors (57), the semi-structured interview allowed a hermeneutical exercise of the discourses, where the meanings of: hospitality, medical knowledge were obtained, administrative costs, epidemiological data, empathy, camaraderie and solidarity. Meanings that were regrouped into four large categories: Profession as Praxis, Identity, Cultural and professional Ethos. These categories allowed the resignification of the Venezuelan Medical Management, finding Venezuela as a final reflection as a transversal axis in the phenomenon.
