Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to analyze the Barquisimeto Museum as heritage and cultural identity of the Lara people. Currently, museums are consolidated as part of the cultural identity of a nation, because they represent the projection of the human being's heritage, in relation to its history, art, crafts, its ancestral culture, among others, depending on the type of museum and the purpose for which it was created. Hence, the Barquisimeto Museum, today becomes a cultural institution consecrated by its history, which enjoys prestige and popularity not only in the Lara state, but also in different regions of the country, providing knowledge that makes the Lara society participates in its actions, especially those through which it assumes the role as an agent of social integration becoming part of that identity and cultural heritage in the region. From this perspective, it becomes a living entity in constant social renewal, which strengthens the culture of the Lara region, where its citizens feel identified with their projects, ideas, collections, exhibitions, cultural and educational activities giving them a sense of cultural identity unique in the central-western region of Venezuela.
