Bibliometric research with Venezuelan focus on the nutraceutical aspects of the rhizome of (Zingiber Officinale Roscoe)

Abstract

Nutraceuticals are defined as any food or food ingredient, which exerts beneficial action on health. This is how ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) is stipulated as an object of study in its condition of nutraceutical, originating in the tropical areas of Southeast Asia.The aim of this article was to analyze the research conducted on ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) as nutraceuticals. The methodology addressed was a descriptive observational study, with a systematic bibliometric review in bibliographic databases; and manually through the Internet in magazines and public bodies. Ginger is a plant belonging to the Zingiberaceae family that has about 45 genera and more than 1000 species, which in turn has nutritional values such as the phytopharmaceutical which is scientifically recognized as antimicrobial, hypoglycemic, analgesic, neuroprotective, anticancer, anti-inf lammatory and antioxidant; At present, it is known that this species contains more than 400 nutraceutical components. In the period analyzed, there was an 
increasing evolution in the number of studies at the international level, but little at the national level, the works identified are heterogeneous in the quality of the information reported regarding the methods of analysis, the sources of data, the type of intervention, so it is necessary to make more efforts to improve the quantity and quality of specific scientific works of ginger in Venezuela from Ethnomedicine, such as nutraceuticals and phytopharmaceutical.
