The fundamental objective of this project is to offer the country’s telecommunications sector competence in the design, installation and operation of optical communications systems, specifi cally in passive optical networks and fi ber-to-the-home (FTTH) network
architectures. Likewise, the objective was to evaluate the systems already installed, with a view to increasing their penetration in the population, capacity, effi ciency and quality, using technologies such as those mentioned above. This will allow an evolution of these networks, favor the progress of the country and the use of such infrastructure to solve problems present in other fi elds such as medicine, food production, education, among others. To achieve the objectives, it was proposed to build an FTTH model under the G-PON protocol (passive optical networks with gigabit capacity) through commercial active and passive equipment, used for this
type of deployment. Thus, a test bench was established to support the planning of optical access networks and to allow the training of cooperatives and organized groups for the installation and deployment of G-PON technology in our country. The execution of laboratory tests is planned in order to verify the correct operation.
