Health Indicators of the Pregnant Population: Maternity Ward Ejido Mérida - Venezuela, Period 2019 - 2020

Population characterization is a process determined by intrinsic, social, political and economic variables of its behavior as a specific complex system, therefore the objective of the study was to create health indicators that characterize the maternal population of the Campo Elías municipality of the state of Mérida- Venezuela, during the period 2019 2020. A quantitative, descriptive and interpretative research was carried out, with a process of planning and organization of parameters and variables, using the non-parametric statistical method, analyzing the medical records of 1408 pregnant women attended at the Maternal Ward of the Campo Elías municipality. The following variables were considered: age, educational level, socioeconomic level, geo-referential data on housing, type of delivery, sex, weight and size of the newborn. The results show that the average age of the pregnant women was between 20 and 30 years old, with a predominance of housewives, the educational level of most of them was of high school, the greatest geographical distribution of the population was in the parishes of the Campo Elías municipality, in the Matriz parish and in the Libertador and Sucre municipalities. Physiological delivery was predominant, there was equal gender proportion of neonates, with weight and height from 2,700 kg to 3,500 kg and 47cm respectively; plus an increase of 2% of pregnant women. In conclusion, the analysis of the variables made it possible to systematically characterize the maternal population attended in this municipality, highlighting the capacity and quality care provided by the institution, which makes it possible to establish indicators and monitor the effectiveness of the care provided to pregnant women.
