Bibliometric indicators in the context of knowledge management

Abstract

The present essay of explanatory character, analyzes the tendencies of scientific researches with participation of Venezuelan authors on the topic COVID-19, compiled in the databases of scientific documents of open access, BASE, CORE, Deycrit-Sur, EuropePMC, Google Scholar, La Referencia, Paperity, PubMed, Scielo, Zenodo, Saber ULA, Saber UCV and Saber UCAB. The analysis of the mentioned documents was made using Microsoft Excel and Atlas. ti tools, which allowed the achievement of indicators expressed in metrics, categories and descriptors, from which the existing scientific production by Venezuelan researchers on the COVID-19 topic can be deduced, and also evidences the existence of a great dynamism in the production and ma nagement of knowledge. Consequently, the main findings were: (a) medical and health sciences stand out as the areas of greatest research interest; (b) there is parity in gender relations; (c) the Capital District and the states of Mérida and Zulia are the most prominent regions in scientific production; d) the main authors are affiliated mainly to the Universidad Central de Venezuela, the Universidad de los Andes and the 
Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas; and e) Venezuelan authors establish relationships or collaborative networks in the world context, finding that many of them also conduct research with foreign authors from sixty-eight (68) countries of the world.
